As a agency we are often asked for Pro Bono work. We are small, we have limited resources, but we want to help non-for-profits and entrepreneurial startups.

We are also approached frequently by college students and recent grads wanting jobs as interns, and while we want to help them achieve their career goals, assigning them to client work is something that we can’t do.

So what can we do? We combine these two needs and they solve each other. Interns doing awesome creative work for non-for-profits under the supervision of Spoke’s partners. Interns gaining real life experience on real projects. In corporate speak, this is what you call a win-win.

Start by learning more about Sprockets

A feature in AdSaint about last year’s program

Jay Yerxa, writes about his internship

Post from Emily Steinhauser, Sprocket from 2010

I want to be an intern

Great, we are hiring for two positions, a designer and a project coordinator. Interns will work directly with the partners and receive 1:1 direction and support for the duration of the project. The students will be expected to work full time and the position is paid. Our agency works with tight deadlines, tight budgets, and can be a fairly stressful environment. We work hard, and we play hard.

Apply for internship here

Updated 5/9/12 – All the internship positions have been filled; thank you to all who have applied.

Design intern requirements and details:

Interns should have strong design and / or illustration skills

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite software, especially Illustrator and Photoshop

Enrolled or a graduate of a graphic design program

A desire to work in the marketing / advertising field

Their own computer

Project Coordinator

This internship will focus on primarily on coordinating projects and client meetings, and will be responsible for assisting in concepting and writing copy.

The intern needs to be a strong writer, have excellent verbal communication skills and be deadline driven and highly organized.

The intern will be expected to conduct market research, develop creative briefs, document meetings, coordinate all next steps, keep the design team on target strategically, and deliver projects on time.

I posted this on Google+ asking:

Who is using Google+ regularly? What do you enjoy about it?

I have yet to receive any feedback. Now that could be because of the date (I posted it on 12/30, a couple days before a holiday), or because of my lack of using it regularly, but I’m unconvinced that the majority of early-adopters are still there or that anyone is using Google+ regularly. I see some of my fellow web developers on there, but not a lot of non-tech folks.

So please prove me wrong and tell me what I’m missing by not devoting any “social networking time” to Google Plus.

P.S. Look for our new site soon. We’re putting the finishing touches on it now.
